Apple Will Start Mass Producing Foldable iPhone and iPad Pro in Late 2026

Estimated read time 2 min read

Apple apparently is preparing for mass manufacturing of its first foldable devices in the second half of 2026. Recent sources state that the tech behemoth Foxconn is at the New Product Introduction (NPI) phase; an early prototype should arrive shortly in April 2026.

Development of Foldable iPhone and iPad Pro

Apple allegedly is developing two foldable devices:

  • With a 7.8-inch primary display and a 5.5-inch cover screen, a book-style foldable iPhone
  • A huge 18.8-inch OLED folding iPad Pro.

According to reports, the foldable iPhone might skip Face ID in favor of a side-mounted Touch ID sensor and display no obvious wrinkle when unfolded. The iPad Pro might include under-display Face ID technology in meantime.

Mass Production Timeline & Analyst Insights

Analyst Jeff Pu (via MacRumors) claims Apple has entered the NPI phase, a major step of product development including design, engineering, prototype, and production. Pu forecasts:

  • By April 2026 prototype development will be finished.
  • Following more improvements, mass manufacture will start in H2 2026.

This is consistent with earlier forecasts by TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said Apple might start manufacturing foldable devices in Q4 2026 with a possible debut in 2027.

What to Expect?

Although exact specifics are still rare, Apple’s foldable gadgets should include advanced OLED screens and improved hinge technology to increase lifetime. Should Apple adopt its conventional methodology, the foldable iPad Pro and iPhone might establish new benchmarks in flexible display technologies.

More leaks and formal announcements as development advances could offer further details on Apple’s aspirational foldable range.
