Karachi-Kings-Defeat Multan Sultans Super Over

For the first time in the history of the Pakistan Super League, Karachi Kings has qualified for the final match.

In the 1st playoff qualifier match of HBL PSL 2020, Karachi Kings defeated Multan Sultans after a thrilling match. The result of the match decided in the Super Over as scores were level in the allotted 20 overs.

Karachi Kings and Multan Sultans meet each other on the 14th of November at National Stadium Karachi in a match where 1 finalist team had to be decided. At the end of the match, it was Karachi Kings who won the match in a surprising super over with 4 runs.

Multan Sultans Innings

The captain of the Karachi Kings, Babar Azam won the toss and decided to field first. When Multan Sultans started the inning, they made it easy for the opponents to take wickets. Sultans were in hot waters right from the beginning of the match as 4 wickets were down at a total score of 40 in the 7th over.

Then Ravi Bopara and Khushdil Shah stayed on the crease and they put some runs on the board. Khushdil Shah dismissed by Arshad Iqbal in the 13th over at a total score of 80-5.

A brilliant inning was expected from Shahid Afridi but he could only ad 12 runs on 12 balls in the total. Ravi Bopara was also gone after he made 40 runs and at that time, the total runs on the board were 111 in 17.3 overs.

At this stage, Sohail Tanvir hit some big shots and he added quick 25 runs on just 13 balls. With the help of 2 sixes by Tanvir, Multan Sultans set a total of 141 runs which was not good enough but still a fighting total.

Karachi Kings Innings

When Karachi Kings started their inning, they were good as they made 61 runs in 9 overs for only 1 wicket loss. On the very first ball of the 10th over, Alex Hales got run out by Khushdil Shah and then Iftikhar Ahmad dismissed by Shahid Afridi in the 13th over when total runs on the board were 90-3.

The match was still looking very easy for the Karachi Kings as Captain Babar Azam was playing well and there was more batsman to come like Imad Wasim and Walton.

Everyone expecting an easy win for the Kings, but then suddenly they lost their 5 wickets in no time. Babar Azam gone after playing a brilliant 65 runs knock when the total score was 117 in the 17th over.

Just after 2 balls, Chadwick Walton gone on a total of 119, Sherfane Rutherford dismissed on a total of 122, and Wayne Parnell, gone on a total of 123. Muhammad Amir has gone at a total of 135 in the last over. These 4 batsmen could add only 5 runs in the total.

On the last ball of the match, Imad Wasim hits a boundary and Karachi Kings levels the score. Here comes the Super Over.

The Super Over

Karachi Kings Multan Sultans Super Over

In the super over, Sharjeel Khan and Sherfane Rutherford came to bat for Karachi Kings. Sharjeel got out on the 3rd ball but then Rutherford hits 1 boundary and 1 six. He also gets out on the last ball of the super over. Karachi made 13 runs on the 6 balls of the super over.

From Multan’s side, Rilee Rossouw and Ravi Bopara came to bat and they had to make 14 runs on 6 balls bowled by Muhammad Amir. They didn’t lose the wicket, but they could only make 9 runs in the super over that also includes 2 wide balls.

Both the batsmen couldn’t hit a single boundary on the super over of the 1st qualifier of HBL PSL 2020. Hence, Karachi Kings won the match in the super over by 4 runs and they qualified for the Final match of HBL PSL 2020.
